The great thing about Christmas is that it is the celebration of the birth of Jesus who is our only hope. Jesus Christ is the greatest gift of all, and we can remember that when we receive gifts
this season. When Christmas arrives, Enid and I hope you are going to spend sometime with your family. We are looking forward to Christmas day this year with Enid’s family in Puerto Rico.
Lord willing, next year we will be celebrating Christmas in Brazil. The Brazilian Christmas is quite similar to the way that Americans celebrate Christmas. One of the differences
is that they don’t have turkey for Christmas dinner, but the Brazilians feast on an oversized chicken called a Chester. The Brazilians also have a rather radical Santa Claus named Papai Noel in Portuguese.
Papai Noel is not normally seen as a big round jolly man in a fuzzy red snow suit, but he often wears swimming trunks and can be white, Afro-Brazilian, or South American Indian.
Before we can go to Brazil, we are spending sometime here in Minnesota raising a prayer and financial support team. It has been good to see people here in Minnesota. Right now we are not enjoying
the cold weather, for we have been spoiled the last three years in warmer climates. My Puerto Rican wife even wears a jacket inside the house. We will continue support raising in Puerto Rico
after Christmas. I’m sure that we will be speaking in Enid’s church there concerning Brazil. We plan to leave for Brazil sometime in March. Please pray that the visa will come swiftly. When the visa is issued, we have to be in Brazil within a month. So we plan to apply in January. The visa can take from a month
to three months to be approved.
We are proud to announce that we are starting a family. Enid is about eight weeks pregnant and is due in July. So we have some new challenges ahead along with exciting blessings from God. Please
pray for us as we prepare for the future. We hope that we can connect with everybody while we are home. Much blessings to you.
Wishing you a very Merry Christmas,
Paul & Enid Appelget
